Because … playing sports builds character.
Sports can be a positive experience for your child’s mind as well as his or her body. Many positive aspects of psychological growth can result from sports participation including higher self-esteem, social skills, discipline, and respect for others. As with all YMCA programs the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility are stressed through all our sports programs.
Youth soccer is designed to teach soccer skills to children who have never played the game and improve the skills of those who have. The focus will be on ball control, rules and regulations of the game, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play for all. The YMCA’s core values will be emphasized throughout the season.
Youth basketball is designed to teach basic basketball skills to newcomers and refine skills for returning players. The focus will be on ball control, shooting techniques, offensive and defensive tactics, rules and regulations of the game, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
