VOLUNTEER FOR THE Y

The YMCA is crucial in fostering community well-being, and we need dedicated volunteers like you to continue this mission. Whether it's children, teens, seniors, or families, everyone who comes to the Y does so to learn, grow, and thrive. Your involvement can make a lasting impact on their experience and contribute significantly to our community.

Volunteers are the backbone of our remarkable history, the strength of our present, and the promise of our future. By volunteering at the Y, you actively bring about meaningful and enduring change in your neighborhood. Our volunteers provide invaluable support and resources to men, women, and children of all ages and backgrounds, helping them become healthy, confident, connected, and secure.

We offer various volunteer opportunities across the upper and lower peninsulas to match your interests and schedule. Join us in making a difference today.

FAQ

The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is responsible for protecting children and other people we serve. For this reason, we are required to perform a background check before volunteering in certain roles.

Volunteering with the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas and completing the background check process does not include any financial or credit information being pulled or disclosed to the Association. The language is required through the Fair Credit Reporting Act and solely pertains to the background check you are applying for. This is a secure system, and your social security number is not stored; it is only used to initiate the one background check you request.

You will sign the statement and disclosure, verify your contact information, enter your Social Security number*, and click "Continue."  After submitting the information below, your work for the background check is completed.  The information is then automatically submitted to Sterling Volunteers for processing.  When the check is complete, Sterling Volunteers will automatically update the credential in VolunteerMatters if it was Approved or needs Review at Sterling Volunteers. *The Social Security number is not held within VolunteerMatters.
