We Prevent Drowning

When Ryan and his family returned to the U.S. in 2021, they were searching for more than a gym—they needed a place where every member of the family could feel supported. Most importantly, finding a place where his son, Logan, who is on the autism spectrum, could feel safe, confident, and included.

They turned to the YMCA. At first, Logan was terrified of the water. Through the patience and encouragement of YMCA swim instructors, Logan slowly built courage. The breakthrough moment came when he finally jumped in, breaking through a wall of fear.

For Ryan, the Y isn’t just where his family gets active. It’s where they belong.
“The instructors were so patient with Logan, even when that patience was pressed. They ensured he felt safe and comfortable—and that he enjoyed the learning process. That made all the difference.”

We Prepare Teens for Life

Coaching basketball, volleyball, and soccer with the YMCA youth sports programs got me hooked on giving back to the greater community. When I joined the Teen Leaders Club, I met a fantastic group of like-minded teenagers, who have now become my closest friends. These experiences inspired me to found Active Academics, a YMCA Tutoring and Wellness Program that unites high school tutors to support young students with academics and physical fitness. It has been a great privilege to be involved with the Y, and the skills I gained there, leadership, teamwork, and community engagement, will be invaluable throughout every stage of my life.

We Help Kids Succeed

The Victory team of campers took first place for the upper camp project at the 2025 STEAM Fair. The project involved creating a prosthetic arm that could assist individuals with physical limitations in maneuvering and picking up a drawstring bag. This team worked tirelessly in the lead-up to the STEAM fair to create the best project possible. They utilized the scientific method, along with research, to ensure their prototype was correctly assembled, tested, and presented at the event. Winning this award was a prime example of how the YMCA sets up its campers to succeed in their academic futures.

We Help People Grow Healthier in Spirit, Mind, and Body

Being diagnosed with cancer stunned me completely. I was determined to beat the disease. Joining the LIVESTRONG program helped me reclaim my health and create new friendships.

The instructors and members inspired me each time we met. My group provided me with the much-needed emotional support, while the trained YMCA staff helped develop my physical endurance. Thank you for helping me become a survivor.
